With the holidays past, it feels like spring is just around the corner. The weather this winter has been extremely mild for the most part and I don't know about you but we are ready for greener seasons. With spring on the horizon, the time is now to start planning your spring lawn maintenance.
We will be gearing up to start spring cleanups beginning in March. This service consists of cleaning out all flower beds and trimming any shrubs that need maintenance. Cutting back the grass to give it a kick start out of winter dormancy and applying pre-emergent fertilizer to the turf.
Pre-emergent fertilizer can be applied once the ground temperature reaches 55 degrees. It is important to apply your pre-emergent early to prevent weed seeds in the lawn from germinating. This is the best way to get control of weeds and crabgrass that like to get an early start.
Your trees and shrubs will need some care early this spring as well. We will begin applying dormant oil to the trees and shrubs as early as the end of February, this service always depends on the weather. Just like applying pre-emergent applications at the right time, it is equally important to treat the trees and shrubs for pests that may have overwintered. Applying dormant oil to your trees and shrubs before they begin to produce buds and leaves can protect them from an invasion of pests that can cause damage and/or death to shrubs and trees.
